When Is Janmashtami Celebrated
According to the Hindu calendar, Janmashtami is celebrated on the 8th day of the Krishna Paksh or the dark half under the nakshtra Rohini, in the month of Shravana whereas as per the Gregorian calendar, it comes in the month of mid August-September. The Shravana month corresponds to the month of Bhadrapada Krishnapaksha, according to Barhapatyamana. It is said that Lord Krishna took birth in the year of Visvavasu, about 5,227 years ago. He was the avatar of Lord Krishna which came to the earth in Dwapara Yuga.

In present time, this festival is rejoiced for over two days because the nakshatra called Rohini and the 8th day of Krishna Paksh may not fall on the same day. This is why this festival is celebrated for two days, in which the first day is known as Krishnashtami, as on this day Lord Krishna took birth which comes on the eighth day after the festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan whereas the second day is called as Kalashtami.

Significance of Janmashtami

The festivities of Janmashtami start at midnight because it is said that God made his celestial appearance on the earth during this time. Conch is blown and the idol of Lord Krishna is given a consecrated bath with panchamrit and then with gangajal. After this, people perform special puja, perform aarti, offer sweets, fruits and fresh flowers as a tribute to the God. Also, they rock the cradle which indicates that Lord Krishna has taken birth. After performing the rituals, people break their fast by having the prasad.

The main objective of the coming of Lord Krishna on this earth was to make the people and the Mother Earth free from the evilness of the demons. He also played a very significant role in Mahabharta which was the legendary battle took place in Kurukshetra. He spreads the message of love, kindness, humanity, pure bhakti and good karma on the earth.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort:

• In 1947, we achieved our independence under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. After that we have had major changes in our country in each decade
• I believe that the last decade has been very good for India.
• Democratic forces have been strengthened and the common man has been empowered.
• The UPA has worked towards building a progressive and modern India.
• We want an India where there is social equality and people from no section of society face discrimination.
• We have dreamt of an India which provides employment to all its youth.
• We have taken steps towards these goals but the journey is a long one.
• We have introduced the Food Security Ordinance and we hope it will soon be passed into law.
• Without agricultural growth our villages can't prosper.

Jon Brookes Charlatans drummer dies at age 44. August 13, 2013 UK

Jon Brookes, the drummer with indie band The Charlatans has died aged 44. 

He had suffered a seizure on tour with the band in 2010 and had been receiving treatment for a brain tumour. 

Brookes had undergone several operations, but had still been working on new material with the band over the summer. He died in hospital on Tuesday morning with his family at his bedside.

Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess tweeted that the band was "torn apart" at the news and sent love to Brookes's family.

"Jon Brookes, my friend, our drummer and inspiration to so many, passed away this morning. We are torn apart. Love & thoughts to Jon's family," he said.

He also thanked "everyone for their messages and memories of Jon. So much love on such a sad day".

A further statement from the ban read: "Jon was a brilliant drummer, an inspiration, a founding member of The Charlatans, part of our family and a friend to everyone in and around the band.

"Losing someone who was always so full of life is a tragedy that will be shared by so many. Our thoughts are with Debbie and all of Jon's family." 

Collapsed on stage 

Brookes was diagnosed with a brain tumour after collapsing during a Charlatans gig in Philadelphia, in the United States in 2010. 

One of the band's best known songs, The Only One I Know, reached number nine in the UK singles chart in 1990

He briefly stopped breathing and was helped by a doctor attending the show, before being taken to hospital for emergency treatment. 

The rest of their US tour was cancelled as Brookes was flown to the UK for treatment.

Speaking afterwards he described how he "saw lights" in the corner of his eyes before collapsing at the concert and said he was at the "start of the long road of treatment for cancer" but was "feeling fit and positive". 

In July this year the band revealed that he had undergone further surgery for the brain tumour.

They said he had recovered well from the operation but would remain in hospital for additional treatment.

Brookes, of Burntwood, Staffordshire, was a founding member of the band that formed in the West Midlands in 1989.

Another original band member, keyboardist Rob Collins, died in a car accident in 1996.

The Charlatans have had 22 UK top 40 hits, including The Only One I Know, Can't Get Out Of Bed and One To Another.

Utter Pradesh Basic Education Board conducted the Utter Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2013 on 27 and 28 June, 2013 on 872 centers across the state. 76,65,634 candidates appeared in UPTET 2013. Examination Regulatory Authority already issued the answer sheet of the test.

The answer sheet will be evaluated by to agencies to avoid Possibility of manipulation. After the result delivery of the certificates will be started.

A total 722566 candidates appeared in UPTET 2013 and 102755 candidates qualify the test.

According to the Examination Regulatory Authority, the result of UPTET 2013 will be announced on 13th August, 2013 from 12.00 noon on ward. The result will be made available on the official website of the board http://upbasiceduboard.gov.in

Hit television drama Breaking Bad has scored its highest audience yet in the US, as the show's final run begins.

A total of 5.9 million viewers tuned in to cable channel AMC on Sunday night, doubling the audience of the opening episode of the last series.

Only zombie drama The Walking Dead has proved a bigger hit for the channel, pulling in 8.1 million fans earlier this year.

Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston as a chemistry teacher turned meth dealer.
Its audience has grown steadily through word of mouth, DVD sales and critical acclaim. The first series averaged 1.2 million viewers, while the most recent series was seen by 2.6 million.
The gritty drama pulls no punches, killing off key players and charting the moral tailspin of Cranston's character, Walter White.

It has won five Emmys since it debuted in 2008, and is up for a further eight prizes at this year's ceremony on 22 September.

After Sunday night's premiere, only seven episodes remain. UK viewers are able to catch up with the show on web-streaming service Netflix just hours after the programme premieres in the US.
